Jasper, AB, September 17, 2012 ~ Jasper’s celebrity judges have named a winner in the Star Correspondent contest: Heidy Barton of Orillia, Ontario! As Tourism Jasper’s star correspondent for the Jasper Dark Sky Festival (October 12 – 14, 2012), Heidy will bring charisma, creativity and fresh perspective to the Jasper experience this October via:

While all the finalists displayed creativity, talent and passion, Heidy won over the judges with her charm and upbeat humour. Heidy is currently a student of Business Marketing and spent this past summer working in Jasper, where as you can see from her submission, she absolutely fell in love. It will be great fun following her coverage of Jasper and the festival, so stay tuned! In the meantime, watch for contest outtakes highlighting some of the best entries that didn’t make the shortlist and visit the Facebook contest page to find all the great videos, photos and stories.

Jasper Star Correspondent shortlist announced

On August 11, 2012 we announced on this website Jasper Tourism was on the lookout for a Star Correspondent.

Jasper, AB, September 11, 2012 ~ The votes are in and the public has decided our finalists for the Jasper Dark Sky “Star Correspondent” contest! With over 50 entries and over 5000 votes, it was an exciting race but in the end five edged out the competition to make the shortlist: Aliya Daya, Heidy Barton, Miranda Broumas, Neil Zeller and Rachel Courey.

Now, our celebrity judges – Bob McDonald, host of CBC’s “Quirks and Quarks”; Peter Hall, president of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada; “morning goddess” Patti Shea of regional radio station The Eagle; Daniel Betts, editor of The Fitzhugh; and Tourism Jasper’s own Mary Darling – will determine who will be the sole survivor. Only one can be the star! Stay tuned for the judging round, unfolding from now until September 18 live via YouTube.
